Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility Fellowship

Colorado Chapter of Partners of the Americas

Nicolás Arízaga, M.A.

Fellowship Coordinator

In 2024, this fellowship fostered cross-cultural collaboration and the exchange of ideas regarding public policy and democratic advocacy. We were honored to select Néstor Iván Elvir Hernández from Tegucigalpa, Honduras, as our Fellow. Representing Honduras Diversa and Consejo Nacional de Juventudes Hondureñas, Néstor embarked on a transformative journey to Colorado and Wyoming in July, supported by a Professional Travel Grant from the U.S. Department of State and Partners of the Americas.

During his fellowship, Néstor visited vital cities representing the true American spirit, such as Denver, Greeley, Colorado, Cheyenne, and Laramie, Wyoming. He engaged with various public policy actors, including non-profits, advocacy groups, and coalitions, to gain insights into the American policy process. Through his work with local organizations, he aimed to understand how these practices could be adapted and implemented to strengthen policy initiatives in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. He also lived with three American host families, exposing him to a unique cultural experience.

Néstor's experience exemplifies our commitment to promoting inclusive and equitable practices that bridge cultures and create meaningful, lasting impacts.
